Art, comics, graphic design and web development by the artist: Matthew Taylor
Chalk is a beautiful medium to work with but it is hard to get high levels of detail due to its softness. I like the earthy colours best so most of my chalk drawings are red or brown but you can get chalk in almost any colour.
Chalk can look great on coloured paper particularly if you use two or three different hues. I like to add white chalk highlights to add depth but you can extend this depth by using two tones of dark too; an orangey-red with a burgundy-red is a perfect example.

'The portrait is one of the most curious art forms. It demands special qualities in the artist, and an almost total kinship with the model.' - Henri Matisse
