This drawing is a study of the hands. That is why her hands are drawn in more detail then the rest of the picture. The hands can be so expressive. If you look at old masters drawings and paintings, the hands often communicate what the person is thinking or doing quite acurately. It's a shame that today we tend to overlook this useful trick. I believe that the hands in this drawing really help to solidify the mood of the artwork.
